Fantastical Blog Hop & Giveaway

Fantasy Books, Games and Movies

I've always loved fantasy, ever since I read the Narnia series of books as a child. Being very shy and introverted, I didn't mix with others much and books were my escape. I could go on visits to distant faraway lands, some real, some fantastical, but I loved them all.

Fantasy books still take up a whole lot of my bookshelves and recently I've been enjoying fantasy role playing games as well. My husband didn't know what he started when one year for my birthday he bought be Dragon Quest: Journey of the Cursed King. He knew I liked fantasy so he thought I would like the game, he was right. I was hooked and sought out other fantasy games.

My husband didn't understand the appeal of these types of games. He likes the racing ones where you can play over and over again to try and beat your latest time. But I do play my fantasy games over and over again, not just once :) It's like being in a fantasy story where you are the hero and get to do things. I'm not very good yet, I play on the causal option if there is one.

I'm enjoying playing Dragon Age II at the moment and one of my favourite aspects is you can play as a man or a woman, and you can romance either male or female characters too. I'm playing as a male mage Hawke and romancing Fenris, an male elf who was once a slave. I've seen it said that a lot of people don't like Fenris and he was only fangirl bait. Well, I must be a fangirl then, I love his character. And I have to admit I love the angst.

My favourite fantasy films hands down are the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I can't even admit how many times I've seen them, triple figures anyway. My husband, knowing how much a fan I was, surprised me one Valentine's Day with an arthouse cinema showing all three films back to back a few years after they were first out. I've read the books, but I do prefer the films. I've certainly watched those more than I've read the books.
